Happyfield

Coffee staples like flat whites and lattes There’s a great nitro cold brew and a dark caramel coffee served in a frosted mini mug with a creamy, golden foam.

Happyfield is an exciting addition to this traditionally Italian suburb, with its tasty menu, friendly front-of-house staff, and Five Senses coffee pumping out of the sunny yellow espresso machine.

The restaurant has an American diner vibe, which means “proper” pancakes: foldable without breaking, half-pinky thick, slathered in Pepe Saya butter, and drenched in maple syrup from Canada.

On an English muffin, the McLovin Muffin has chipotle aioli and handmade chicken sausages topped with folded eggs and melted cheddar. Toasted coconut, mint, tamarillo, and grapefruit, and orange slices are sprinkled over the Bircher muesli. Dukkha is sprinkled over mixed mushrooms and served on a bed of whipped ricotta and feta cheese.

The mortadella and provolone ciabatta for lunch pays homage to Haberfield’s Italian heritage, while the crisp-skinned barramundi with cavolo nero is a more upscale option.

Happyfield is a licensed restaurant that serves breakfast and lunch. A small selection of locally brewed beer, wines, and cocktails are available. The Hail Cesar is a Canadian Bloody Mary made with vodka and delicately sweet Clamato juice.

The pressed-tin ceiling was painted yellow by owners Chris Theodosi and Jesse Orleans, who also added banquet seating and chipped back the plaster on the exposed brick walls. The high communal table in the center of the room was tiled by Theodosi’s father.

Between the sunshine-yellow and sage-green décor, Theodosi’s yellow socks, and the energized, comfortable space, Happyfield takes its name from its home suburb – and “happy” is the best way to describe it.
