Glebe Point Road is one of Sydney’s most famous cafe strips. It’s a strolling and dining parade for eclectic alternative locals, tourists looking to discover another perspective on Sydney, or bargain-browsers sniffing around every Saturday’s Glebe Markets (as well as ultra-cool shops such as In Denial, or addictive bookshops such as Gleebooks or Phoenix Rising). But who has the best coffee in the street? This is a pretty easy matter, judging by the locals who plonk themselves in Well Connected Cafe’s urban lounge chairs, or even by the numbers who gather in the doorway on a take-away caffeine dash. What awaits those who linger in search for something more than the subtle flavours of the Campos Coffee is a great range of delicious food too. The Breakfast Special is available until 4pm (on a Saturday they serve up 300 of them) and represents great value: Scrambled Eggs on Toast with Bacon, Slow Roasted Tomato, Coffee and Fresh OJ for just $12 (mushrooms can be had instead of bacon). Brekky side-dishes have recently become de-rigeur in this urbane cove: chilli marinated fetta and wilted spinach $4, or baked potato stack with olive and chorizo sausage $4 – tangy options to revive the tastebuds. Brunchophiles (types whose hunger only kicks in about 11am) need go no further than WellConnected’s superb BLAT – bacon, lettuce, avocado and tomato, done just the way a mid-morning urge demands. Lunch spans the globe to touch the locals’ cafe-savvy palates with lasagna, lavash bread wraps, turkish bread sandwiches, salads and soup appearing on the foodie radar. Afternoons are great for just hanging with a pick-me-up coffee, enjoying WellConnected’s brilliant selection of cool cafe music – Jack’s tastes have to be just about the best in Sydney. And then, the breaking news: the dinner menu is very, very new – well worth a revisit for those who’ve done it all. Recommended is the Linquine of Tasmanian Smoked Salmon with Rocket and a Light Caper, Dill and Lime Sauce for just 10.9 bucks! Also highly regarded: the Penne with Roast Vegetables and a Light Pesto Cream Sauce. Open from around 7am ’til after 10.30pm every night, we say you get connected soon…
